World Press Photo Contest 2012

The 2012 worldpress photo contest open from 1 December Images may be entered as single images or stories/portfolios in nine categories: Spot News, General News, People in the News, Sports, Contemporary Issues, Daily Life, Portraits, Arts and Entertainment and Nature.

This year the World Press Photo organized its first annual contest for the best multimedia storytelling in visual journalism.

2012 Multimedia Contest - still photography in combination with (but not limited to) audio and visual elements as video, animation, graphics, illustrations, sound and text. The work will be judged on their impact, as well as their production and content. Entries for the multimedia contest will be accepted from 8 December and the deadline is 19 January 2012.

Eligibility: The World Press Photo contest is only open to professional photographers and photojournalists.

Copyright: The photographer grants World Press Photo permission to use prize-winning material in the contest, the exhibition, the yearbook, the portfolio CD, on the website and for the promotion of World Press Photo activities, without any remuneration being due. This permission is limited to an 18-month period from the announcement of the 2012 awards and is applicable only if the material is selected by the jury. The photographer grants World Press Photo permission to use material submitted in the contest and selected by the jury indefinitely and without any remuneration being due, in its online archive showcasing the results of previous contests.

Timeline: Photographers can enter their pictures to the 2012 World Press Photo contest starting at the beginning of December. 

 Deadline: 12 January 2012, 23.59 Central European Time.
