The Sunday Times travel photography competition 2012

This year is going to be all about London. With the Olympics, the Paralympics, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee all taking place in the next 12 months, 2012 will be a spectacular, and memorable, one for the capital. To reflect this, we are looking for photographs that celebrate London in all its diversity. From a sunrise above the Thames to a knees-up in an East End pub, how you interpret that is up to you.

Judging your efforts will be the professional photographer Jon Nicholson, who has wielded his camera in some of the world’s most spectacular locations and has a particular interest in London this year. “I will be photographing London 2012 as an official photographer to the Olympic Games, helping to produce the official commemorative book, which is a dream come true,” he says. “For this competition, I’m really looking for someone to surprise me, with a view of the capital and its inhabitants I haven’t seen before. So don’t just think of the obvious landmarks — London is huge, and there are great shots to be had everywhere from SE17 to NW1.

Deadline: 31 July 2012
